Traditional, semi-soft to hard cheese made with cow’s
milk. It is a sphere-shaped cheese with a thin, barely
perceptible, yellow rind covered with a bright, distinctive
red coat of wax.
It has a mild, slightly nutty-sweet and sometimes salty flavour, becoming stronger with age. The texture is supple and elastic with small holes.
Edam melts best when shredded or grilled. It is used as a table cheese and is popular for breakfast and in sandwiches. It can be used in appetizers, salads, cooked foods and desserts.
Try pairing mild Edam with peaches, melons, apricots and cherries. For aged Edam try apples, pears, other fruits and nuts.
Try fruity wines, lager/dark beer, lemonade, flavoured iced tea, apple juice and sparkling water with mild Edam. With aged Edam try fruity red wines, white wines and sparkling cranberry juice.
Also try Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Baco Noir, Riesling, Cayuga, dry rosé or blush wines with Edam.
Available in ball, load, wedge and sliced form.
